The Republic of Maldives is a chain of 1,190 coral islands scattered across the Indian Ocean covering an archipelago of 80–120 kilometres wide and stretching 860 kilometres south. The Maldives are considered one of the top ten diving spots in the world, with almost 99% of the country being ocean, it is one of the most aquatic nations.
Only 201 islands are inhabited and an additional 98 islands are developed exclusively as tourist resorts. The rest of the islands are uninhabited. The Four Seasons Resort occupies the entire island of Kuda Huraa in the North Malé Atoll.
